Boko Haram Releases 21 Chibok Girls
Islamic militant group Boko Haram has released twenty-one of the Chibok girls it kidnapped back in April 2014, it has been reported The released girls have been handed to the Nigerian government. Sahara Reporters quoted a government source saying the girls were dropped off by Boko Haram militants earlier today at the Banki area of Borno state, and were later picked up by military helicopter. The Federal Government has recently expressed its desire to negotiate the release of the abducted schoolgirls. The girls were last seen in a video posted by the jihadist group in August, featuring its new leader appointed by Islamic State, Abu Musab al-Barnawi. Boko Haram has given conditions including the release of its detained fighters in exchange for the schoolgirls. It is yet to be known if there was any exchange of sort.
Nigeria Claims First Olympic Medal Of Rio 2016
Nigeria has claimed her first and possibly sole medal at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympic games. The Nigerian contingent left it late to get on the medal board and have finally won a bronze medal in the soccer competition. Having lost to Germany in the semi-final, Nigeria’s dream team VI faced Honduras in the third-place match knowing that a win would ensure a bronze medal for the team. The Olympic team captain, John Obi Mikel was in sensational form as he provided the three assists which enabled Nigeria to race to an early 3-0 lead. Honduras tried to claw their way back, cutting down the lead after they scored two goals but Nigeria held tight and managed to seal the victory. Congratulations!
